Government of Jamaica

 Jamaica Library Service

Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Office of the Children’s Registry (OCR) and the Jamaica Library Service (JLS) in 2014, UNICEF donated six computer units and printers which were officially handed over to the JLS on 3 March, 2015 at an OCR Press Conference held at the JLS Headquarters.

Between March and May 2015, the OCR installed computer units and printers at six parish libraries across Jamaica based on the high volume of reports emanating from these parishes: St. Catherine, St. Thomas, St. Ann, St. James, Trelawny and Westmoreland.  These units will serve useful as the Ananda Alert Secretariat can ably send news releases directly to these libraries which in turn can disseminate the information throughout the parish libraries, branch and school  libraries within the six parishes as well as via their mobile library networks.

Jamaica Library Service staff within these parishes were also sensitized and are now better able to understand issues regarding child abuse and missing children.
